The Perth Cultural Centre is a place with many layers of history.  Communities, individuals, city designers, urban planners and government policies have shaped this landscape.  

Some of these layers are visible and other layers are more obscured or hidden.  

Social, political, and economic factors, as well as what people value as important have impacted how the Perth Cultural Centre has changed over time.

   Learn about the wetlands that were once a part of the area now known as the Cultural Centre  

   See examples of preservation, destruction and adaption of buildings 

   Consider the meaning behind the names of places 

   See how the ‘boom and bust’ cycle and modernism have transformed the built landscape 

   Explore how nature is being brought back into the city 

This photo trail will give you an opportunity to explore these ideas within the Perth Cultural Centre Landscape.  You may wish to recreate each historical photo with a modern photograph of your own from the same location and angle.
